Ah, the romance of coffee. Looking back to the Taster’s Choice commercials. Remember, when she knocked on his door to borrow some coffee? It was the beginning of a romantic soap opera centered around coffee. The appeal of the perfect cup of coffee. Do you know how much we spend on that little bean? Six Friends spent $3,929.60 and drank 1,154 cups of coffee over 10 seasons in Central Perk. Cafe Nervosa, from the sitcom Frazier, coffee almost triples in price from the first to the final season from $1.50 per cup to $3.75 per cup.

The sophistication of Coffee Shops with their chalkboard writings with the flavor of the day while window shopping. The outdoor patio chairs, which have the cutest fabric and bows that tie behind the chair. Indoor dining is centered around an orange velvet couch and coffee table that looks as comfortable as your living room couch at home. That perfect couch that fits the back of your legs comfortably while holding a cup of coffee and people watching. How about sitting in a bookstore pilfering through books or listening to records, both old and new, drinking a cup and taking that moment for yourself. The simple pleasures of that perfect cup of coffee and where you sip its perfection.

How about that really hot and strong coffee - but not the greatest cup you’ve ever had? The simple pleasures of a great local diner. The smell of hash browns and eggs on a flat top. Hearing the bantering of familiarity between the guests and waitstaff. Seeing the pies and cakes on the counter and hearing “order up” in the background gives you that “Kiss my Grits” moment. Coy and I have a favorite diner we frequent on occasion that takes you back in time. The booths are old, worn and comfortable. The food is fresh and made to order. A family business for over 50 years that keeps the generations coming back over and over - for coffee.

Brewing the perfect cup of coffee takes practice, skill and creativity. Did you know there are over 170,000 coffee drink combinations? Which might make someone say, “just give me a coffee with no fancy stuff in it”! It’s intimidating ordering coffee. Do we try something new? What if we don’t like it? In the end, we go with our same perfect cup of coffee that warms our heart and puts a smile on our face. We smell the aroma and take that first sip of greatness.
